A free eye camp was organized by Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation at Our Lady of Apostles’ (OLA) Hospital, Jos on the 24th of September, 2022. Screening for cataracts, however, began on the 22nd of September. The eye camp recorded a huge turnout, the largest so far recorded by the foundation. A total of 548 patients were seen, and 225 reading glasses as well as eye drops for common eye conditions like glaucoma and allergic conjunctivitis were dispensed.
57 patients had eye surgery; 53 of these were for cataracts with the remaining being pterygium excision. About 40 patients with cataracts could not be attended to. The Executive Director of the foundation, Prof. Olukorede Adenuga, however, assured the patients that they will be catered for once the foundation is able to raise funds for the surgeries. He thanked all those who supported the foundation in organizing the outreach and was particularly grateful to the major sponsor of the program; Alliance for Community Enhancement, a UK based club set up to help out in areas of health and education in poorer countries.
