A free cataract surgery camp took place on May 30, 2022 at the 563 Nigeria Airforce Hospital, Jos. Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation (KEF) collaborated with the hospital to provide free cataract surgery to indigent patients. While receiving the eye care team from KEF, the hospital commander, Air Commodore Ogbodo expressed his gratitude to the foundation for choosing the hospital for the laudable program. He noted that there was a lot of poverty in the country with people unable to afford basic health care and that programs such as this will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the poor, particularly for those who are blind. He said he hoped the foundation will organize more of such programs in the future and that the hospital will always be ready to support whenever the need arises.
The Executive Director of the organization, Prof. Olukorede Adenuga, thanked the Commander for accepting to collaborate with the organization. He said the foundation was desirous of having another program in the hospital before the end of the year. This he said would be a comprehensive program, not just offering cataract surgery but will also include screening for and treatment of glaucoma, distribution of reading glasses, and screening for diabetic retinopathy.
Eighteen patients underwent surgery. All surgery consumables and postoperative medications were provided by the foundation.
