Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation held its first activity for the year 2022 on the 13th of January at the Nigerian Correctional Service (formerly Known as Nigerian Prison Service), Jos Medium Security Custodial Centre. Eight inmates and four officers of the command had free eye surgery, including cataract and pterygium surgery. Eye drops were also prescribed for glaucoma and other minor eye conditions, and fifty reading glasses distributed to those with presbyopia. The glasses were, however, inadequate and an additional 52 pairs were made available to both inmates and officers the following week during the postoperative visit. Accessing eye care has always been difficult for the inmates as the clinic within the centre does not have an ophthalmologist or optometrist. The inmates and officers were therefore very happy and grateful to the organization for bringing the service to the custodial center.
